Under the direction of the Director, the Operations Manager shall be responsible for supporting the mission of Yale-New Haven Hospital by upholding the philosophy, policies and standards of practice of the Department of Respiratory Care. Responsible for planning, directing and evaluating the Respiratory Care delivered by assigned personnel for patients of all age-specific groups. Serves as a role model in all areas of clinical and professional practice. Facilitates communication among all levels of the department and with the Medical Director. In collaboration with the Director, develops and monitors the salary and nonsalary budgets of the department. Facilitates professional growth and development of assigned staff. Participates in intradepartmental and interdepartmental activities and projects a positive image of a professional respiratory therapist to the institution and the community.

Responsibilities

  • 1. In collaboration with the Operations Director and Medical Director, plans for and directs the clinical operation(s) of Respiratory Care by:
  • 2. HRO, Safety, and Regulatory Readiness
    • 2.1 Responsible for attendance of YNHH Morning Safety Report, Respiratory Care Safety Report, and YNHCH Daily Safety Report.
  • 3. Respiratory Care Dashboard
    • 3.1 Identifying department goals and ensuring their accomplishment.
  • 4. Respiratory Care Board to the Medical Board
    • 4.1 Prepares and initially approves all information and materials necessary to present to the Respiratory Care Board to the Medical Board.
  • 5. Clinical Redesign and Cost and Value Positioning
    • 5.1 Manage Respiratory Care portfolio for all associated Clinical Redesign projects.
  • 6. Employee Engagement
    • 6.1 Manage action plans as necessary for RT IIIs and RT IVs.
  • 7. Patient/Family/Visitor Experience
    • 7.1 Manage action plans as necessary.
  • 8. Internal Customer Service
    • 8.1 Manage action plans as necessary.
  • 9. On Boarding New Employees
    • 9.1 Oversight of all new employees on boarding until orientation/probationary period is complete.
  • 10. Staff Schedule
    • 10.1 Manages and Coordinates staffing to volume metrics (in patient and ambulatory).
  • 11. Salary Budget
    • 11.1 Responsible for day to day management of payroll and premium spend.
  • 12. Non Salary Budget/Supply Chain/Capital
    • 12.1 Manage day to day operations equipment needs (non capital, capital, and rental).
  • 13. Policy and Procedure/Clinical Standards of Care
    • 13.1 Manage Policies and Procedures and Standards of Practice Portfolio.
  • 14. Staff Development
    • 14.1 Manages individual clinical performance portfolio.
  • 15. Leader Development
    • 15.1 Responsible for yearly succession planning assessment of direct reports through the Institute for Excellence resources.
  • 16. Electronic Medical Record Optimization
    • 16.1 Will represent Respiratory Care in all aspects of the Electronic Medical Record.
  • 17. Day to Day Operations
    • 17.1 Oversight of day to day operations of areas of responsibility and staffing to volume.
  • 18. As assigned, serves as departmental representative with respect to correspondence, interdepartmental liaison, and liaison with the community.
  • 19. Direct Patient Care Responsibilities:
    • 19.1 5% of worked time will be dedicated to direct patient care as assigned by the Director.
  • 20. Coucels and evaluates personnel and institutes appropriate disciplinary measures (HRO defined) when standards and regulations are violated.
  • 21. Assists in planning of new facilities and/or relocation of current facilities.
  • 22. Professional School Affiliations
    • 22.1 Responsible for coordination of professional school rotations, such as Respiratory Therapy, Nursing, Paramedicine, and other professions as necessary.

Qualifications

EDUCATION


Graduate of CoARC approved Respiratory Care college degree with Masters degree in Health Related Field.


EXPERIENCE


Five (5) or more years experience in clinical practice. Two to three years of demonstrated performance in leadership/supervision/management required.


LICENSURE


Licensed in the State of Connecticut to practice as a Respiratory Therapist. Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care required.


SPECIAL SKILLS


Demonstrated ability to direct a large diverse workforce in a 24-hour/7 day per week environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills; in-depth knowledge of clinical practice; ability to manage multiple priorities; strong leadership skills. Knowledge of computer-based information systems; knowledge of both salary and nonsalary budget management. Knowledge of quality improvement and the ability to implement improvement projects.
